Mobility Lab

The Mobility Lab makes innovation in the mobility domain possible. The Lab operates in Rotterdam, The Hague and the south of the Netherlands.

What is  Mobility Lab?

Mobility Lab was set up by De Verkeersonderneming, SmartwayZ.NL, ZO Slim Bereikbaar and the municipality of The Hague. The aim is twofold: on the one hand, Mobility Lab helps businesses solve their mobility problems; on the other hand, it provides start-up companies with an opportunity to test their prototypes in the real world. Because start-ups need to scale up before they can have any impact. This is particularly true for prototypes that have an impact on roads, public transport and urban areas. Before they can scale up, start-ups have to prove their prototypes in the real world in order to convince clients and investors. To do that, a pilot - with the involvement of real users in a real situation - is essential. Mobility Lab can provide the necessary infrastructural facilities in and around Rotterdam, The Hague and the south of the Netherlands.

2019 edition

There have already been two successful editions of Mobility Lab. In 2018, the participating start-ups managed to attract investments to the value of 5.5 million euros. Curious about the results from 2018? Then view the after-movie via the following link.

At the time of writing, the third edition is already up and running. No less than 70 start-ups registered for this third edition. Of that number, 25 initiatives were invited to give a presentation during the selection day on 21 March. After an interesting day of pitches and speed-dating, the jury ultimately selected the 14 start-ups that will be able to test their prototypes in the real world in the coming months. Around 40 launching customers stand ready to support and help the start-ups. The focus in the coming months will be on matchmaking and testing the pilot concepts.
