The A58 between Breda and Eindhoven holds the number 1 spot on the traffic jam hit list kept by EVO (the association of freight carriers), TLN (Transport & Logistics Nederland) and TNO (the Dutch Institute for Applied Research). The aim of InnovA58 is to ensure that the solutions chosen to improve traffic flows and reduce holdups on the A58 are future-proof. We are doing this by widening the road to 2 x 3 lanes and applying traffic management innovations as part of the Smart Corridor.

Innovation plays a significant role in InnovA58 and we, together with knowledge partners, local and regional authorities, market participants and local residents, are making sure that the A58 will be a smart, sustainable and future-proof road.

Four things that make InnovA58 noteworthy

  • A demand-driven approach to planning and implementation.
  • The integration of innovations at both the planning stage and during the realization of the project.
  • Collaboration and knowledge sharing with other projects, such as the A58 Breda-Tilburg.
  • Linking the innovation themes 'Optimum Life Cycle Costs (LCC)', 'Sustainable and Energy-neutral road', 'New roadside services' and 'C-ITS and Smart Mobility' in the Living Lab.

Stakeholders and road users alike are involved from the earliest stages; one example is the public debate about the integration of the route of the A58 near the town of Oirschot.
